Regular maintenance directly affects both weld quality and the service life of your welding machine. Most faults can be prevented with a few simple habits.
Daily checks
- Check the contact tip: a worn or spatter-clogged tip causes irregular wire feed and an unstable arc.
- Clean the gas nozzle: spatter build-up disrupts gas flow and causes porosity.
- Check gas flow and hoses: leaks waste gas and cause weld defects.
Weekly checks
- Clean the drive rolls: wire dust and wear on the rolls cause the wire to slip. Make sure the roll groove matches the wire diameter.
- Check the torch liner: a dirty liner brakes the wire; blow it out with compressed air and replace if needed.
- Inspect cables and connections: a loose earth clamp and damaged cables cause heating and power loss.
Periodic maintenance
- Internal cleaning: metal dust inside the machine can weaken insulation. With the power disconnected, open the covers and clean with dry compressed air.
- Water-cooling unit: check coolant level and quality and clean the radiator.
Safety note: internal maintenance and electrical checks must only be carried out by authorised technical staff with the power fully disconnected.
